License

This documentation is free to use, share, and adapt. The content and the code behind it carry different licenses.

WhatLicense
Documentation — text, screenshots, videos in docs/CC BY 4.0
Site code — mkdocs.yml, docs/javascripts/extra.jsMIT

Documentation content

The tutorials, images, and videos on this site are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license. You may copy, redistribute, remix, and build on this material for any purpose, including commercially, as long as you:

  1. give appropriate credit,
  2. link to the license, and
  3. indicate whether you made changes.

Reusing a chapter in a lab course or a lecture? That is exactly what this license is for. Just keep the attribution line below with it.

Attribution: ELN Documentation by Soyee Chan, licensed under CC BY 4.0.

Site code

The MkDocs configuration and the small amount of JavaScript that powers the video timestamps are released under the MIT License — use them anywhere, no attribution required beyond keeping the copyright notice.

Screenshots and videos

The screenshots and screen recordings show the interface of the ELN itself and of the OpenChemLib chemical editor. Those interfaces and their trademarks belong to their respective owners and appear here to document how to use the software. The license above covers our own text and our capture of those screens — it does not extend to the software being shown.

External services mentioned in these guides — PubChem, GESTIS, and CAS SciFinder — have their own terms of use.

The full legal text for both licenses lives in the LICENSE file at the root of this repository.
